Spelltropy is a fairy sickness caused from polluted magic. It was originally concentrated in the Chinese city Linfen, but then spread through the rest of the fairy population.

History

Spelltropy is an old fairy disease that killed 25% of the fairy population. The only known cure of the disease is the brain fluid of the Silky Sifaka Lemur, discovered by Opal Koboi.

Opal Koboi devised a plan to broadcast lemur-attracting sounds into the forest where the Silky Sifaka Lemurs lived. This was done to draw the lemurs to a central spot so that their brain fluid could be extracted and be used as an antidote against Spelltropy. However, when the lemurs came, a massive forest-fire killed them all.

The plot of The Time Paradox plot is centered around the only Silky Sifaka Lemur (Jayjay) that remained, found in South Africa when Artemis was ten years old. His mother, grief-stricken from Artemis Senior's disappearance, donated fifty thousand euros to save the lemur.

Display of Sickness

It progresses to "terminal stages" within 3 months. From that time, the victim only has a week to live. The infected fairy would then become very weak with a strong fever. Their pores will emanate the smell of lilies and will start secreting a clear gel. The victims' organs will begin to shut down rapidly as they die. But, as stated by Foaly in The Time Paradox, the victim will feel no pain upon death. However, death can occur in as little as 2 hours.
