About

Artemis Fowl is a series of science fiction fantasy novels written by Irish author Eoin Colfer, featuring the titular character, Artemis Fowl II. A teenage criminal mastermind, Artemis captures a Fairy, Holly Short, in the first book and holds her for ransom to exploit the magical Fairy People and restore his family's fortune. In the sequel, Artemis Fowl: The Arctic Incident, he allies with the Fairies to rescue his father from the Russian Mafia.

The series introduces Artemis as an anti-hero and the fairies' enemy, but as the series progresses, he assists the Fairies in resolving conflicts with worldwide ramifications; Artemis develops a strong sense of morals, and by the final book, he is willing to sacrifice his life for his friends. The series concluded with The Last Guardian, released July 2012. A sequel series, The Fowl Twins, began in November 2019. A film based on the series is slated for release by Walt Disney Pictures on May 29, 2020. In advance of the film, Disney is producing for its streaming service Disney+ a live show featuring Eoin Colfer titled Fowl, Fairies & Family.

Artemis
Artemis Fowl II is an Irish child prodigy who is originally an adversary but eventually an ally of fairy civilization. He has black hair, blue eyes, very pale skin, a nearly dysfunctional family with an elaborate history of crime, millions of euros at his disposal, and the highest intelligence of his generation. He is the only known human to have read the Book, the fairy bible. He first captures Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon (a division of the Lower Elements Police) with the help of his faithful manservant, Butler. By the strength of his mind and manservant, he ends up with a load of gold, a cured mother, and unprecedented knowledge about the People: Knowledge he is sure to exploit in the future. The series watches Artemis develop from a calculating criminal to a young man with acknowledged, though controlled, emotions.

What is with the movie? I was hoping to have the thing with Artemis kidnapping Holly. Instead, he's her ally? I hate this! Though I was more excited before, now I'm not as quite as excited. ☹️
